Tally
Tally tells Lumora which of its outputs your vision mixer currently has on program (live) or preview. Lumora shows it on the multiview (red border = program, green = preview) and in the Tally row of the Status panel.
Tally runs in the desktop Controller. Lumora's servers can't reach the mixer on your local network, so the Controller connects to it and reports what it sees. Tally is set up from the Controller, and nothing connects until a Controller has the workspace open.
How it works
Each Lumora output (CG channel) is fed into your vision mixer on some input. You tell Lumora which input that is. When the mixer puts that input on program, Lumora marks the output as on program; same for preview.
The tally settings belong to the workspace. Every Controller that opens the workspace connects to the mixer with them, and everyone in the workspace sees the combined result, browsers included.
Set up a connection
- In the Controller, open the Settings (cog) menu and choose Tally Configuration.
- Click + Add Connection and turn on Enable.
- Pick the Switcher type, then fill in its address (see your mixer below).
- Under the mapping list, enter the mixer input number for each Lumora output. Leave an output blank if it isn't fed into the mixer.
- Click Save. The Controller connects straight away. Its status shows in the Status panel's Tally row and in the multiview's tally list.
Enter the Host as just a hostname or IP address, such as 192.168.1.20 or vmix-pc.local. Put the port in the Port field; leave it blank for the default. Lumora refuses a host with a port, path or anything else attached.
You can add several connections, for example one per mixer.
vMix
The Controller uses vMix's TCP API, which vMix runs on port 8099 whenever it's open.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Switcher | vMix (TCP API) |
| Host | IP address or name of the vMix PC |
| Port | blank (8099) |
| Input numbers | vMix input numbers, as shown on each input in vMix |
If the connection doesn't come up, check that Windows Firewall on the vMix PC allows vMix to accept connections on your network. A vMix that goes quiet for 15 seconds is reported as disconnected and the Controller reconnects automatically.
Blackmagic ATEM
The Controller talks to the ATEM directly over the network (UDP port 9910), the same way ATEM Software Control does.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Switcher | Blackmagic ATEM |
| Host | The ATEM's IP address (shown in ATEM Setup, or on the switcher's LCD) |
| Port | blank (9910) |
| Input numbers | Camera / input numbers as labelled on the ATEM (Input 1 = 1) |
The ATEM must be on the same network as the Controller PC. If the status reads "No response from ATEM", check the IP address and that nothing between the two blocks UDP.
TSL 3.1 (UDP)
Use TSL for mixers and tally gateways that send TSL UMD 3.1 over UDP, such as Ross, Grass Valley and many tally interfaces. Here the mixer sends to the Controller, so there's no host to enter.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Switcher | Ross TSL 3.1 (UDP) |
| Listen port | blank (5727), or the port your mixer sends to |
| Input numbers | TSL display address + 1 (address 0 = input 1) |
- On the mixer or tally gateway, add a TSL 3.1 UDP destination pointing at the Controller PC's IP address and the listen port.
- The first time, Windows Firewall may ask whether Lumora Controller can accept connections. Allow it on the network your mixer is on, or tally won't arrive.
Tally 1 is read as program and tally 2 as preview.
Panasonic KAIROS
Not yet verified on hardware
KAIROS support hasn't been tested on a real KAIROS yet, so it may not connect. If you try it, we'd like to hear how it went: see How to get help.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Switcher | Panasonic KAIROS |
| Host | The KAIROS IP address |
| Port | blank (80) |
| Input numbers | KAIROS input numbers |
The Controller polls the KAIROS once a second and backs off while it can't reach it.
Troubleshooting
- No tally at all. Tally only runs while a Controller has the workspace open. Check the Status panel's Tally row on that machine.
- "Invalid host". The host has something other than a hostname or IP address in it, often a port (
192.168.1.20:8099). Move the port to the Port field. - Connected, but the wrong output lights up. Check the input numbers in the mapping. For TSL, remember the input number is the display address plus one.
- TSL shows connected but nothing changes. "Connected" only means the Controller is listening. Check the mixer is sending to this PC's IP address and port, and that Windows Firewall allows it.
